I really need to get a garden going next year. We've lived here for about 4 years and have been working on "landscaping" instead of planting a real veggie garden. Our first try was a Pumpkin in our front flower bed. It is HUGE!
Any suggestions on vegetables that grow well here? The soil is odd.
The soil IS odd, and awfully rocky, but our main issue is with critters. We won't put up a fence, so we're limited in what we can grow that won't get eaten. This year, rabbits ate the tops of all the onions and then pulled them up and left the bulbs scattered around. They also nibbled the new asparagus. We grow tomatoes in pots near the house, but the ones back in the yard have done okay this year, too. In past years at our old house down the hill, we've done well with peppers, beans, zucchini, broccoli, brussels sprouts. . . . See Living in Dryden, Dryden Is Home, and Five Wells blogs for far better gardens than mine.

Do you know anything about the youth soccer leagues? I'm wondering how old children have to be to join.
It's a wonderful program--the best in the county. They have to be 5 by September 1 or starting K. http://www.dryden.ny.us/recyouthsports.html#sertoma
