Reading List

I'm addicted to dour Swedish mystery writers, and this might be the best yet.

Given and reading Henning Mankell now. Desperate for even a drop of irony or wit of any kind... Still reading it, though.

No irony, no wit--one reads dour Swedish mystery writers for loneliness, depression, and a wonderful sense of place. Who knew, for example, that Swedes vacation in Poland, if only to escape the fog? Characters in Mankell are always hurtling toward an inevitable death where no one will miss them while failing to connect on any real level with any of the many other characters that pass their way. It's delightful.
