I don't think I've ever seen as many of these around as I have this spring. We've got one that pecks the ground outside my window half the day and spends the rest in a tree loudly calling anyone who will answer.

Ant eaters. Not a lot more than usual where I am, so my guess is you have some nice ant hills this year that are attracting them to your immediate vicinity (and thus attention). Nothing wrong with that -- as long as the ants aren't carpenter ants!
Pleasing. Perhaps they can live in my dishwasher, where we have a lovely ant nest.
